What to Wear at A Black Tie Event? Advice for Men and Women
What is a black tie event? A black tie is an evening event and social function that usually take place after 6 p.m. It's more than just wearing business clothes for men. A man would usually wear a tuxedo. a woman would wear a black evening gown.
However, if you've ever received an invitation to a black tie affair you might have wondered “what should I wear?” Should I dress in business attire? Black Tie for Women
If you're going to a cocktail party, then wear a black wrap maxi dress. It will give you a traditional elegant look, yet an element of sexy. A black tie event does not mean that you have to wear all black. You can add a hint of white or other colors. For example, a sleeveless long black lace evening dress with a nude material underneath (showed in the photo below) is acceptable at a black tie affair. The rule is to wear majority black.

Unlike the hardship it is for women to pick out an outfit, men have it easy. Throw on a white dress shirt, a tuxedo, a bow tie, and a pair of black dress shoes and you will look like the George Cloney of the party (well, close to it).
If it happens to be a bit colder outside and you want a change in the regular old tuxedo. Go with a velvet formal dress suit. It is retro and slick.
